Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face.
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent.

The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle.

DERMALFILLERS
What dermal fillers can do
  • Plump thin lips
  • Enhance shallow contours
  • Soften facial creases and wrinkles
  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars

Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as a value-added part of facial rejuvenation surgery.

BOTOX™
Dr. Lesavoy offers Botox® Cosmetic, a very popular injectable for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows, creases in the forehead and neck, lip lines, and crow’s feet.

Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the underlying muscles that cause facial wrinkles and lines, creating a smooth facial appearance. Results from Botox typically work for three to six weeks and can repeated as needed.

JUVEDERM™
Dr. Lesavoy offers Juvederm™, a smooth dermal filler used to “fill” facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (“parentheses” between the corners of the mouth and nose) or any other wrinkles around the mouth or nose.

Results from Juvederm typically last six months or more and can be touched up as needed.

RESTYLANE™
Dr. Lesavoy offers Restylane®, a popular choice as a dermal filler for treating facial wrinkles and folds and for plumping up lips. Because it is water-soluble, it fills wrinkles and depressions in the skin with a natural substance that is slowly reabsorbed by the body.

Restylane is used for for treating wrinkles around the corners of the mouth, lips, nasolabial folds, and frown lines. Results from Restylane typically last from 6 to 12 months.

What dermal fillers can’t do
For some patients, surgery such as a facelift, brow lift, or eye lift may be the best approach. Non-surgical rejuvenation treatments, such as soft tissue fillers, cannot achieve the same results but may help delay the time when consideration of a facelift becomes appropriate.
